The Dwarvish Language is the common tongue spoken by the Dwarves of Yoruta. While there are local dialekts and varieties, they all have the following in common:
Dwarves write in runes, which they often carve in stone or clay tablets. They rarely use paper or ink. The Orcs use a similar set of runes.
The following 21 letters exist in the Dwarvish Language:
- A B D E F G H I K L M N O R T U W Z Û Ô
Words are chained together using the "-" letter, like "Ubrek-Thamor" (literally "Grave-Guard") for example to create new meanings.
The plural of a word is formed by appending û at the beginning of a word. For example "Althôr" = "Mountain", "û-Althôr" = "Mountains".
Dwarves rarely talk about the future and thus have a very limited vocabulary for it, for their minds are in the present and past. Thinking about the future is seen as a waste of time.
The word "oda" means "and".
A full sentence in Dwarvish would be: "Dwôrin-oda-û-Thamor weden û-Althôr-Bomonôr" = "Dwôrin and (his) guards watch (over the) mountaintops."
