The Kingdom of Balior was the first human kingdom in Asthafar. Its splendour was extinguished by the First Elvish Empire.
The city of Balior lies in the middle Vyn-Valley northwest of Samisarûn. At its height the kingdom stretched all the way to the upper Vyn-Valley in the north, to the Swamps of Ganes Abir in the south, the Grand Desert of Bel'Akhzor in the east and Forest of Tota Anur in the west.
Early Balior was home to traders and fishermen. Late Balior under Queen Bollona was much more war orientated. Large smithies for the production of weaponry and armor were build.
Balior is first mentioned in 23 EC by elvish sources. The people of Balior were known for their trade with the surrounding human tribes.
By the year 58 EC several tribes had joined the people of Balior, thus forming the Kingdom of Balior under King Zefron.
In the year 79 EC Analia Faranidis, an elvish noblewoman of House Faranidis, married Prince Dareon of Balior.
Their daughter, Thalia, succeeded Dareon in 101 EC. Her and her mother's elvish nature worried the freedom-loving people of Balior. To appease them Thalia took a man named Oldeus as her king.
The long-living nature of the Elves proved to be a strain on the kingdom, for Thalia outlived her husband, who died in 143 EC. This once again stirred worries in the people of Balior, for they feared the growing might of the First Elvish Empire. It didn't help that Analia, mother of Thalia, increasingly seeked to integrate the lands of Balior into the territory of House Faranidis. Thalia, who disagreed with her mother, abdicated.
A man named Bereon was chosen to be the next king and he took for his queen a woman name Olydia. Much to the people's dismay they soon fell under Analia's steadily growing influence. This lead to the Treaty of Subjugation in late 192 EC, as it is called in the Balior-sources. King Bereon pledged fealty to Analia and House Faranidis, a choice which lead to an open rebellion by the people. Bereon and Olydia were lynched by a mob as the palace of Balior was taken over. All Elves in the city were murdered.
News of this reached furious Analia, who gathered the troops of House Faranidis and marched to Balior. They were met by Balior's forces, lead by a woman named Bollona, who had been elected queen. The ensuing battled turned into a hard fought victory for Balior. Analia was forced to retreat.
This however was only the first battle of the First Balior-War. Analia would soon return with reinforcements and lay siege to Balior. The siege was broken only thanks to the neighbouring tribes of the Barandians, the Evenninnen and the Abiranians, who had come to Balior's aid.
The war would rage on until the Battle of Toto Anur in 195 EC, during which Analia was slain under star-lit trees by her daughter Thalia. She - and some of the soldiers loyal to her - turned on House Faranidis. What followed was an uneasy peace.
The peace would last until 212 EC, when the Elves attacked the Evenninnen. Balior came to their aid, but they were utterly defeated, for the southern lands of Asthafar were no longer just the ambition of House Faranidis. Queen Bollona was slain during the battle and left Balior leaderless.
The broken army of Balior stood no chance against the might of the elvish host as they layed siege to Balior once more. Thalia, who had resided in Balior these years, tried her best to defend the city, but alas it fell. Thus ended the 2nd Balior-War in early 213 EC after merely a year.
Thalia was executed by House Faranidis for treason and murder and Balior was burned to the ground, its ruins outliving the First Elvish Empire.
